Why Snappers?
A Snapper is a small tool for positioning lavalier microphones in hair or wigs.
- Strong and reliable positioning.
- Easy and fast use.
- Compatible with most lavalier microphones.
- Easy to hide (small size and available in black, brown, blond).
- No make-up artist needed.
- Optional fine tuning of the mic position.
- No clothing noise
How to use:
- Run the lavalier cable through the rubber of a Snapper.
- Move the Snapper approximately 15 cm along the cable.
- Run the lav once again through the same Snapper.
- Put the mic in a second Snapper. Make sure the ‘teeth’ of the Snapper do not point in the direction of the microphone.
- Locate where you want to put the microphone. Usually 1 cm above the left ear, close to the mouth, is the best position (on the left because when people hug, this is the only place a microphone can survive).
- Grab some hair with the Snapper’s teeth and “snap”.
For the clarity of these examples we used a white microphone in dark hair.
To “snap” this tool don’t push it to an actor’s head, this will give an unpleasant feeling. Hold something (i.e. a little screwdriver) between head and Snapper and then push.
- Position the wire along the actors head (on skin) and put your second snapper high on the back of the head. This will prevent the mic from pointing upwards, and it will provide a strain relief.
- If needed, a third Snapper can be used in the lower neck.
That’s it!!
